About Rozsa Foundation

The Rozsa Foundation is a philanthropic organization that builds on the legacy of its founders who were acknowledged supporters of the Arts* by supporting not-for-profit arts organizations active in the City of Calgary, and hosting a province-wide arts management competition. The Rozsa Foundation also provides limited operational support to a variety of non-arts agencies through donor advised and designated funds.

The Rozsa Foundation has three broad strategic priorities which address current gaps in public policy and arts support:

  1. Increase administrative expertise and organizational stability within the arts sector by funding review of business systems including startegic planning, governance, human resources, finance, fund development, technology, communication and marketing. Professional development opportunities are also provided through separate Foundation intiatives: the annual Rozsa Arts Management Awards, bi-annual commissioned research and the grantee professional development series.
  2. Foster artistic and audience development. Specifically, grants are available for the development of new works, educational programming, cultivation of diverse audiences and upgrading "tools of the trade".
  3. Positively influence public opinion regarding the Arts through lectures, receptions, radio programming and nomination of emerging community leaders to Arts Boards and Advisory Councils.

Which address the following gaps:

  • Artistic risk-taking is discouraged due to financial constraints.
  • Public arts education policy is in a state of transition.
  • New and often ethnically diverse residents are not well represented in typical arts audiences or Boards.
  • Arts Administrators either lack appropriate educational background, and/or have few professional development opportunities.
  • Up to date local arts sector research is too expensive of most arts organizations to obtain.
  • The value of the arts is poorly articulated, especially by those not directly involved.
